I’m looking for an experienced editor to support the development and polish of a nonfiction manuscript titled The Juicy Method: A Survival Guide to 4C Low Porosity Hair. The book blends science, culture, spirituality, and personal experience, offering readers structured routines, practical guidance, and reflections rooted in ancestral strength and self-love. The full manuscript is approximately less than* 150 pages (~45,000 words), but only the first 37 pages (~11,000 words) are ready for detailed copyediting at this stage. The rest of the manuscript is in draft form and still evolving, especially Parts III, V, and VII – but I’m seeking developmental feedback on the whole to help shape what’s next. This is Phase 1 of a larger project. I am actively refining core sections (Part III, V, and VII), and would love to build a collaborative relationship with someone who understands nonfiction in the wellness, haircare, or self-help space. Scope of Work: -Copyediting the first 37 pages (grammar, clarity, tone consistency) -Developmental feedback on the full 150-page draft (structure, cohesion, voice, flow, organization) -Light formatting support, especially with sectioning, spacing, and organizing placeholders (e.g., toolkit pages, charts, reflections, and notes) Ideal Experience: -Strong background in nonfiction, especially wellness, lifestyle, instructional, or cultural work -Comfortable working with partially complete drafts -Able to offer gentle guidance, not just edits – this project is personal and mission-driven -Familiarity with haircare, Black hair textures, or self-help spaces is a plus (but not required) Notes: This is the Hers edition of a two-part His & Hers project. If we’re a good fit, there is potential for ongoing work across final edits, companion editions, or formatting help down the line. Deliverables: -Copyedited version of first 37 pages with light formatting applied (consistent headings, paragraph spacing, basic layout cleanup) -A developmental editing summary (1–2 pages) -Formatting recommendations or light application for sections like routines, charts, and reflection prompts -Miscellaneous editorial refinement (applying standard best practices for nonfiction editing, including light formatting, in-text comments, consistency checks, and overall readability enhancements) Budget: $500-700 flat rate Deadline: Ideally within 2–3 weeks of start Tools Used: Manuscript currently in Word (Scrivener export available if needed) To apply, please share: -A short note on your approach to this kind of project -Relevant samples -Any relevant credentials, certifications, or accomplishments -Flat rate proposal for the scope above -Any initial questions
