Contract Technical Editors

An environmental consulting firm is looking for contract technical editors. We specialize in biological resource management, data science, environmental impact assessment, regulatory permitting, and compliance monitoring services. Our mission is to deliver products that inform resource management and are supported by science. Contract technical editors need to have a biology or ecology background, EndNote experience, and 508 compliance expertise to assist with editing final reports (see job description below). This contract work is requested as the need arises. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Review and edit client deliverables to reflect professional content and formatting • Grammar, spelling, and punctuation review • Manage citations and references using Endnote (when applicable) • Methodically review and edit acronyms • Check standard and metric measurements/conversions (when applicable) • Apply 508 compliance standards to MS Word documents (when needed) Experience: • Microsoft Word at an expert-level user (including styles, track changes, and formatting). • Adobe Acrobat Pro. • Understand and execute basic editing concepts (including proofreading, copy editing/rewriting, and formatting that follows the Chicago Manual Style). • Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills. • Experience with NEPA, CEQA, ESA, and other environmental policies and documents is a plus, but not required. Candidates with multiple skill sets (technical editing, formatting, and software qualification) will receive preference. • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in writing, marketing, graphic design, environmental or biological sciences, or related education from a 4-year college or university is required, along with 3+ years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Working knowledge of the EndNote citation and reference management tool. • Applying Section 508 compliance standards to MS Word documents.
