Engineering Researcher – Mine Tailings & Strategic Mineral Project Opportunities (US-Based)

$20.00
Hourly: $20.00 - $50.00

Join a fast-growing advanced manufacturing company developing high-temperature plasma technologies to produce critical materials from select industrial byproducts. We’re seeking a highly skilled and technically competent researcher with a strong engineering background to help us scout, evaluate, and qualify potential project opportunities across the United States—specifically in Alaska, Alabama, Florida, and Texas. This role requires deep domain knowledge in metallurgy, mineral processing, mining engineering, or chemical/materials engineering. The ideal candidate will be able to independently research and assess project feasibility—particularly the viability of processing mine tailings or other high-potential mineral byproduct streams using Refacture’s plasma-based technology. Responsibilities: Conduct thorough regional and site-specific research to identify opportunities for deploying our plasma tech in the processing of mine tailings or strategic minerals. Analyze composition and availability of relevant feedstock materials (e.g., bauxite residue, tailings, red mud, etc.) in target regions. Evaluate local infrastructure, power access, permitting landscape, and proximity to key stakeholders or logistics routes. Engage in exploratory conversations (email or call) with government agencies, mine operators, or industrial partners when necessary to obtain missing information. Work closely with the Refacture team to develop shortlists of viable project locations and strategic partners. Prepare briefing notes, technical summaries, and recommendation memos. Qualifications: Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or similar field. Strong understanding of mineral refining, waste valorization, and industrial byproduct chemistry. Experience researching or scoping industrial projects (e.g. pilot plants, smelting, refining, etc.). Excellent written communication and ability to distill findings clearly and professionally. Bonus if familiar with any of the following: DOE, DOD, state-level industrial incentives, USGS data sources, or critical mineral initiatives in the US. Preferred Location: Must be familiar with (or willing to thoroughly research) the U.S. mining and refining landscape—especially Alaska, Alabama, Florida, and Texas. Project Type: Initial research-based engagement with potential for long-term collaboration if the right opportunities are uncovered.
